Australian Jockey Handed Ban For Striking Horse

Australian jockey Chris McIver has been handed a seven month ban for striking his horse as he tried to pull it up on Tuesday.

The Central Queensland based Jockey rode Absolute Bonza in the final race and was seen to hit the horse in the head as the field passed the finish line.

Stewards immediately opened an inquiry and charged the jockey with improper conduct.

McIver pleaded guilty to the offence and due to previous breaches he was dealt with strictly.

He was actioned with a six month ban plus a one-month portion activated from a previous offence that had been suspended.
