Laurina

Laurina Horse

Spanish Moon is the sire to notable French horses like Empire De Maulde and Danse Avec Jersey, and Laurina is yet another successful horse from his bloodline. American-foaled Spanish Moon has a record of six wins including in the John Doyle Buckhounds Stakes at Ascot. Breeding him with German dam Lamboghina produced Laurina, who was given an advantage in professional horse racing through being trained by renowned horse trainer Willie Mullins.

Running her first race in 2017 at the age of four, Laurina failed to finish in the Prix de la Mare Aux Couleuvres but bounced back immediately, finishing second out of the thirteen horses running in the Prix Perplexe. It was at this point that Laurina was bought by Sullivan Bloodstock Limited and sent to be trained at the coveted Willie Mullins Stable in the Republic of Ireland.

Laurina Races

Upon moving to Ireland, Laurina ran her first race just a month on from Willie Mullins taking over from Guillaume Macaire as her trainer. This was in the Mares Maiden Hurdle at Tramore, where she won the race convincingly with a 1/4 starting price. The following month saw Laurina attempting to run in a more competitive race, winning the Solerina Mares Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse, with help from second favourite Crackerdancer, who fell after the sixth hurdle.

The biggest test of Laurina’s career came when Willie Mullins put her in the Trull House Stud Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival. She was given a starting price of 4/7, putting her down as clear favourite, where she was able to live up to the bookies’ pricing in winning the race with ease. The second appearance of 2018 saw her returning to Fairyhouse in Ireland to win the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Novice Hurdle Championship Final, taking her record to four wins from four runs under Willie Mullins.
