Three Weekend Eyecatchers - 05/11/2018

1. Bryony Frost

You simply cannot ignore the heroic horse-girl-ship Bryony Frost showed at Wetherby on Saturday.

Frost - who enjoyed Grade 1 Success aboard Black Corton last season in the Kauto Star Novices Chase, was again in the saddle on the Paul Nicholls-trained 7yo, who nearly unseated his jockey at the third fence. Bryony made a miraculously recovery and after such a terrible blunder, she was left scrambling for her reigns.

She sat tight, yet she still managed to complete the course and finished second to the Brian Ellison-trained Definitly Red (purposely mis-spelt), who jumped immaculately.

2. Wenyerreadyfreddie

Back to the eye-catching equine performances, and Wenyerreadyfreddie bolted up in the Ascot Underwriting Chase, at the royal course under Jeremiah McGrath. As many as five horses seemed to be in with a chance rounding the home turn, but the Nicky Henderson 7yo quickly put the race beyond doubt, and asserted easily up the straight.

Winning by 18 lengths in the end, it was the widest winning margin in the UK on Saturday.

3. Snow Falcon

Sean Flanagan and Noel Meade teamed up to complete hat-trick of wins on the day, in the Grade 2 MyCarNeedsA.com Chase. Snow Falcon landed this valuable prize in good style, against a very competitive field.

The 8yo beat Shattered Love into second - who won the JLT Novices' Chase at Cheltenham, and Monalee - who finished runner-up in the RSA Chase at the Festival behind the oh-so impressive Presenting Percy. Snow Falcon, who has shown how versatile he is on the flat and over obstacles, followed up his Kerry National win in September and could be one to keep an eye on this season.
