Three Standout Performances - 21/11/2018

13:00 - Marienstar

The Neil King-trained Marienstar coped well under a penalty to complete a quick fire hat-trick at Warwick this afternoon.

It was another front-running demolition by this 7yo mare, who had also recorded wins at Worcester and Kempton in the last four weeks.

She virtually made all, and despite making a couple of mistakes in the jumping department, proved too good on the run-in to score by five lengths.

17:10 - Zakouski

Nothing really else caught our eye this afternoon, until Zakouski overturned a short-price favourite, by winning on his racecourse debut under James Doyle.

Charlie Appleby held a record of 3-7 with his 2yo's at Kempton this season, and made it 4 from 8 when Zakouski got the better of Headman - trained by Roger Charlton, of whom there had been talk over the Guineas in May.

He tracked leaders, and snuck up the inside to lead inside the final furlong, where he ran on strongly, and was eased towards finish. Looked comfortable.

Notebook.

18:40 - Flaming Spear

Flaming Spear on-the-other-hand was no stranger to the racecourse setting, and made it 3 wins from 4 on the AW, in the Listed feature at Kempton this evening.

He had been below par on his turf runs latest, but the track and surface looked to be well suited before-hand for a return to peak form. That it was.

He was sent off the 3/1 market leader, was mid-division early on, before making headway over 2f out. He led over 1f out, was ridden inside final furlong and kept on well to secure his sixth career win.
