Three Standout Performances - 20/11/2018

12:10 - Lumen

Lumen - who was a surprise favourite for many, took the first race of the day at Lingfield in Division I of the Betway Stayers Handicap.

With nothing to go off form wise, he had been beaten in all four stars on the AW - with distances varying from 1m-1m4f. His form card read 0900 prior to today, but Roger Charlton looks to have sorted this one out perfectly.

The 3yo raced wide throughout in mid-division, began to make headway travelling well over 2f out, before going 2nd 2f out. He edged left over 1f out, and after being strongly ridden, he stayed on to lead towards finish.

Gamble landed.

13:20 - Thomas Crapper

Thomas Crapper ran out a decent winner in the Bet At toals.com Veterans' Handicap Chase at Southwell this afternoon.

His recent form was not all that inspiring, but he did finish fourth in the plate at the Cheltenham Festival behind Road to Respect and Baron Alco - who won the BetVictor on Saturday.

He gave that form itself a boost when winning by four lengths this afternoon having been held up in rear.

He began to make his challenge at the 13th, before a costly mistake lost momentum and reminders at the next, before closing again at the 15th.

He went 2nd 3 out, challenged at the next, before soon leading and was clear towards finish.

15:10 - Dawaam

A hefty purchase for Owen Burrows, Dawaam scored readily on his racecourse debut, in the Ladbrokes Bet 5 Get 20 EBF Novice Stakes.

A £450,000 yearling, there was plenty to like about his pedigree before hand, and certainly caught the eye in the preliminaries.

It was all too easy for him having virtually made all, he was clear over 1f out, and ran on strongly.
