Sandy Lake Stakes Guide

1. Calyx

Trainer - John Gosden

Jockey - Robert Havlin

The unbeaten superstar Calyx will have his last prep run in this Group 2 contest and at odds on and a class above the rest of the field.

He had two runs last season before getting injured with his win in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes being his highlight and really putting him on the map as a serious sprinter over six furlongs.

This season he made his seasonal return at the same track in the Commonwealth Cup Trial and he blitzed the Group 3 field with ease to show that punters were right to get excited about this colt.

This should be a routine victory for the three year old and another run under his belt before his first Group 1 outing at the Royal meeting.

2. Hello Youmzain

Trainer - Kevin Ryan

Jockey - Kevin Stott

With the field being a disappointing four runners with Calyx scaring off many opponents but Hello Youmzain for Kevin Ryan look the best of the rest.

although there is no places on offer he should run his race and finish second. He has had one run this year finishing fourth at Newbury in the Group 3 Greenham stakes.

He will come on for that run after blowing away a few cobwebs but shouldn't trouble the leader.

3. True Mason

Trainer - Karl Burke

Jockey - Ben Curtis

This Karl Burke trained three year old is another one that won't be good enough to challenge the leader but in what looks a race for second spot he is not without a chance.

He finished a mid-field fourth on his seasonal return in a Group 3 in France and is another that should come on for the run but looks vulnerable on quick ground.

4. Royal Intervention

Trainer - Ed Walker

Jockey - Gerald Mosse

The final runner in the field is the Ed Walker trained three year old who is the only filly in the field but has a nice record in six furlong events and could be progressive.

Last season over six furlongs at Newmarket in a Listed event she scored nicely and backed that up with another good run at Ascot finishing second in the Group 3 Keeneland Stakes.

She ran at the start of the month on the all weather but that can be seen as a prep run but again a nice contender but has nothing on the favourite.
