ITV Racing Tips for Today - Saturday 18th April

It's Scottish Grand National Day over at Ayr and Newbury hosts their Guineas trials on Saturday 18th April. With nine live races on ITV Racing for the afternoon, we've gone through all the live racing to pick out our selections and fancies for the day from both the flat and jumps action.

Sans Bruit 7/2

Looked to have been well plotted back to Aintree for a third consecutive win in the Red Rum handicap but was reeled in from 2 out. Has been dropped 1lbs for that effort and gets his ideal looking set up again. Can boss this from the front and remains looking well treated. Will make this a good test and should be able to back up off a 9 days break.

Catching The Moon 5/1

]Made a nice impression as a juvenile last season, winning a novice event on fast ground over 5 furlongs before out battling Lam Yai to win the Firth Of Clyde Stakes at the end of the season. The form of that win looks strong with the 2nd going on to win a listed race well on her next outing. The Fahey yard has started well enough this turf season and the booking of Ryan Moore in the saddle catches the eye. Can resume winning ways as a 3 year old.

Kdeaux Saint Frey 17/2

Has had a solid novice season over fences, winning at Cheltenham earlier in the campaign before going close at Kempton behind Lookaway in a strong grade three contest. Didn’t have much of a say at Cheltenham in the Jack Richard’s handicap but back up in trip and on a flatter course, a mark of 130 looks more than workable. Unexposed over this trip and Sam Twiston-Davies gets back into the saddle.

Zavateri 9/4

A fantastic juvenile campaign saw the Eve Johnson Houghton Trained Zavateri win four times, claiming two Group 2 races and the Group One Vincent O’Brien Stakes. Has the best form in the field here and if fully wound up can outclass his rivals. Rated 9lbs clear, he’ll be hard to beat.

Secret Squirrel 14/1

Has a good record over hurdles, winning three times, finishing runner up twice and finishing third twice from 11 runs. Shaped well on reappearance this season in the Kingwell Hurdle to be 3rd before struggling slightly down the field in the County Hurdle at Cheltenham. Drops to a very lenient looking mark of 131 now and handles any going conditions. Primed for a big run at an attractive looking price.

Pride Of Arras 11/4

Won a novice event as a juvenile before making his comeback a year later winning a strong looking renewal of the Dante Stakes. Didn’t handle Epsom in the Derby but put his best foot forward after being gelded at York in August to win the Great Voltigeur Stakes. Goes well fresh and is at his best on this kind of flat galloping track. Gets weight from the favourite and can continue his progression from here.

Twistthenightaway 7/2

Has improved since being moved up in trip and tackled 3 miles well last time out. Upped another 6lbs for her recent victory, she’s progressing well in this sphere and represents the flying Skelton yard. Gets a hefty amount of weight from the favourite World Of Fortunes and handles soft ground well.

Rogue Diplomat 8/1

Went agonisingly close in the Lincoln at Doncaster three weeks ago, only losing by a nose. Looks to have gotten away relatively lightly with just a 3lbs rise in the weights for that and was steadily progressive as a 3 year old last season. Will come on for the reappearance effort and still has some wriggle room in a mark of 98.

Isaac Des Obeaux 11/1

Put in a really impressive performance to win the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter last month, powering home from the back of the last and relishing the marathon trip and test of stamina. A 7lbs rise for that win looks relatively lenient and another stiff stamina test here will bring out the best in him. Relatively unexposed over fences with just 5 runs under his belt, he’s seemingly found his niche in this long distance races and can continue his progression here.
