ITV Racing Tips for Today - Saturday 18th October

ITV Racing's cameras are live for all seven races from Ascot for British Champion's Day on Saturday 18th October. Featuring a bumper 5 group one races across the card. We've taken a look at all the races live on ITV1 and picked out our fancies and tips for the day.

Sweet William 5/1

Sweet William is simply too big a price to ignore with 2 places on offer here he dotted up in the Doncaster Cup when last seen and is simply the second best horse in this race behind Trawlerman heading the market at a skinny 1/2.

The Gold Cup trip seemed not to suit Sweet William at the Royal Meeting but he followed Trawlerman home in the Lonsdale Cup before winning at Doncaster last month.

Should outstay Stay True and fill the 1-2 with Trawlerman. A straight forecast of Trawlerman and Sweet William the exotic play on the opener.

Words Of Truth 1/1

It’s hard not to fancy the chances of Words Of Truth for this new addition to Champions’ Day for the juveniles. Already a course and distance winner and a Group Two winner he’s going to be hard to beat at the top of the market.

Rated 6lbs clear of his next best rival, after winning on his second start here at Ascot he took a major step forward from his debut and followed up well under a penalty at Newmarket.

Powered home to win the Mill Reef Stakes when last seen and looks the likeliest winner of this conditions event.

Flora Of Bermuda 12/1

The outlier at the prices in this race has to be Flora Of Bermuda as Wathnan throw a three pronged attack at the Champion Sprint Stakes this year.

Flora Of Bermuda was beaten only half a length in the race last year at a big price and has generally been super consistent this season finishing in the top three in 3 of her 4 runs, only fluffing her lines in the July Cup when rearing when the stalls opened and coming home in last.

A creditable 3rd at a big price in the Sprint Cup Stakes, she goes well at Ascot and another big run could be on the cards. A price of 12/1 simply looks too big for her to get in the mix with as many as 4 places on offer.

Waardah 6/1

I’d rather not take the risk on siding with anything that tried it’s hand over in France for the Arc meeting less than 2 weeks ago on Champion’s Day so despite Kalpana heading the market for the race she won last year, her Arc exploits might have left a mark on her and it could be safer to side elsewhere in the market.

Waardah won a 10 furlong listed race at Goodwood on soft ground back in June before winning the Lillie Langtry Stakes from Danielle back at the Sussex track during the Glorious Meeting.

She has a bit to find on the ratings but arrives nice and fresh after a 77 day break and will be doing her best work late when others will be tiring. Can hit the frame at a decent price if handling the rise in grade and drop in trip.

Docklands 14/1

Field Of Gold makes his long awaited return but it remains to be seen if he’s the same horse following his injury and It might be a better play to delve deeper into the market for some value.

It’s hard to knock Docklands at 14/1 as an E/W choice for this with his course record being absolutely outstanding at Ascot. Seven runs at Ascot, he’s not finished out of the first 3 in any of his runs here and scalped Rosallion in the Queen Anne Stakes at the Royal Meeting.

Looks a big price to get into the mix at his favourite venue again and arrives as a fresh horse. Certainly value in the price.

Ombudsman 15/8

This has been the end game for Ombudsman’s season and he’s had a good run up to Champions’ Day coming 1st or 2nd on all his outings for the campaign.

An impressive winner of the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at the Royal Meeting, he was then chinned on the line by Delacroix in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown, likely hitting the front too soon.

A pacemaker at York helped him bolt up in the Juddmonte International and similar tactics will be applied here. Top rated in the field and can confirm his dominance in the 10 furlong ranks again.

Greek Order 14/1

There’s seemingly been some early money about for Greek Order and the Michael Bell trainee looks nicely handicapped for a return to Ascot.

Coming 4th in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot, he shaped well enough on his subsequent two starts to be in the mix at Sandown and in the Golden Mile at Glorious Goodwood.

A change of trip didn’t pay dividends the last twice struggling over both 9 and 10 furlongs but down to. Mark of 96, a 5lbs claimer booked in the saddle he looks nicely treated for another big run here. Jack Callan does the steering.
