ITV Racing Tips for Today - Fridy 16th January

The ITV Racing cameras are live from three courses on Friday 16th January with the start of the Winter Millions weekend kicking off at Windsor. With graded jumps action coming from the London track with supporting races from both Market Rasen and Newcastle, we've gone through all seven televised races and picked out our selections for the afternoon.

Be Aware 8/11

Lost nothing in defeat when failing to go with Arkle Favourite Lulamba in the Henry VIII Novices' Chase at Sandown and sets a strong standard at the head of the market for this race. Seemingly handles any ground from good to soft and has had a nice 41 day break to come back to his best. The one to beat as top rated in the field.

Mahons Glory 4/1

Finished ahead of Bill Baxter in the Becher Chase when last seen and gets a handy 4lbs from that rival in this Veteran’s Handicap chase. Will appreciate this drop back in trip and should find this move into veteran’s company easier than previous assignments. Weighted to go well.

Hollygrove Cha Cha 2/1

With the rain falling it can only help the chances of Hollygrove Cha Cha who stayed well at Exeter on heavy ground to get the better of Bluey last month. There’s a 6lbs swing in the weights now but conditions look in favour of the Jamie Snowden mare and she’ll likely rate better than 129 over fences.

Galaxy Star 15/2

Just failed to shoulder a penalty when last seen at Newbury, just going down by a head to Lady Litigator, the winning rival in receipt of 7lbs. Galaxy Star has a really nice way of travelling and gets a handy weight for age allowance in this company, proven handy with 4 year olds winning the 2019, 2020 and 2021 renewals. Can put in another big effort.

Nemean Lion 2/1

Won this race last year in what looked a relatively deep renewal and ran an absolute screamer when last seen in the Fighting Fifth when coming a close 3rd behind Golden Ace. Will appreciate the step up in trip and should be hard to beat in this contest again.

Berkshire Whisper 12/1

Goes well at this venue, having won a novice event and a handicap over C+D last year. Went close on his penultimate outing at Southwell when coming 2nd by a neck off just 1lbs lower before seemingly doing too much at Kempton in the lead last time out. Should get a better tow into this race and prefers this straight sprint track. Oisin Murphy returning to the saddle is a positive.

Melon 15/2

Will love the soft ground here with the rain falling and wasn’t disgraced in 3rd at Cheltenham on seasonal comeback, running a little too freely in what looked a decent contest won by Fortune De Mer. Gets ground conditions to suit and could well rate much better than a mark of 124.
