Grey’s Monument has won his last two starts in handicap company, particularly impressively too. Last time out at York, he ran over a mile in a C2 handicap and fairly bolted up by 6L.

He was impressive there, and he clearly stays further than 7f, which is a plus for this type of race. He will still have to raise his game now though, this is a proper group race.

Ancestral Land

Ancestral Land is going the right way. He was second in a maiden at Windsor, behind the useful Al Karrar, but Ancestral Land’s rider, Adam Kirkby, reported that the colt ran green.

He was much more streetwise next time, when winning a novice at Chepstow, making all to win by 3L eased down. He’s clearly a colt with a huge amount of ability, and he warrants his place in the line-up.

Promoter was seventh on debut, but that was a particularly good novice, and he missed the break so that can be forgiven. He made amends next time out at Chepstow though, winning a seven furlong novice by a length and a half.

He was slowly into stride again there, but he was well on top and eased towards the finish there. He will need to break on terms to have any sort of chance in this now, you can’t get away with this in group company.

Oviedo was impressive in a novice at Doncaster first time out, winning by a length and a quarter from Hope You Can Run back in second.

However, Oviedo hasn’t entirely fulfilled on his early promise as of yet. He was third in a good G3 next time out at York, but failed to build on that next time when tenth at the Curragh.

He definitely has some work on to mix it with some of these.

Defence Of Fort was an impressive winner on debut at Ascot in July, winning by just under five lengths. That race is working out relatively well too, so that’s a clear positive.

He was then sent to Sandown for the Solario, but finished a modest fourth. That was probably an underwhelming effort given the nature of his debut win, but he’s been rested and he’s probably still one to keep on side.

Knight won on debut at Yarmouth in what looked a relatively decent maiden. He wasn’t the quickest away from the gates and the performance was far from polished (he looked rather green) but he still got the job done and won by 2L from Irregular Warfare in second.

He is unbeaten, and looks to have a good bit of stamina. He’s hard to confidently rule out.

Striking Stairs a really well bred Dubawi colt for the Godolphin and Charlie Appleby team. He won on debut at Sandown from Nothing To Sea a length and a quarter back in second. He didn’t get a clear run there, but still ran out an effortless winner.

He looks a potential group horse, and he’ll have the chance to deliver on that here, but the standard set is a decent one.

Lord Of Biscay

Lord Of Biscay is another horse who’s just had the one run, but he won – so that’s all that counts! He travelled particularly strongly, and made light work of an odds-on favourite from the John Gosden yard.

He did it really well there, and could have won by much further had Atzeni got to work. Lord Of Biscay is really well bred too, so that’s another positive.

He may well surprise a few.

Caragio, like Ancestral Land, was second on debut before going one better next time out. Caragio only missed on debut by a neck, but made amends in good style at Leicester.

He made all and ran right through to the line to defeat the useful Highbank by 3L. He looks one to keep on side, he’s obviously going the right way.
