Group 2 York Stakes Guide

1. Forest Ranger

Trainer - Richard Fahey

Jockey - Tony Hamilton

The first runner of the day is Forest Ranger who has ran to a good standard in his last two runs and if coming on for those runs could enter the frame in this hot contest.

He finished second behind Zabeel Prince two starts ago who went on to frank that form by landing a Group 1 in France after that race.

His latest outing saw his first win of the season in a Group 2 at Sandown and off the back of that he is a big player at a nice price.

2. Addeybb

Trainer - William Haggas

Jockey - Daniel Tudhope

This five year old is a very frustrating horse to follow but last time out showed why people consistently do winning in the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot.

That came on soft ground which he is known for liking and unless there is a mass pour down of rain the ground will be quick and this will be a problem for the gelding.

3. Elarqam

Trainer - Mark Johnston

Jockey - Dane O'Neill

This race is full of consistent runners and Elarqam has ran to good standard all season winning two of his four contests and placing in the Wolferton behind Addeybb.

His wins came at Goodwood in a Listed event and Sandown last time out in another Listed event, his step up to Group 2 could go either way but he will have to be at his best to feature.

4. Knight To Behold

Trainer - Harry Dunlop

Jockey - Ben Curtis

The outsider of the field is Knight To Behold who looks slightly out of his depth off the back of his latest performance but if he can find the form from his seasonal debut he could throw up a surprise.

He finished second behind Crystal Ocean in the Group 3 Gordon Richard Stakes but then went on to finish seventh in a Group 1 in Longchamp.

Although it was a tougher race he never looked happy and he will need to put that behind him to go close here.

5. Regal Reality

Trainer - Sir Michael Stoute

Jockey - Richard Kingscote

The current favourite is Regal Reality and this comes after his superb run in behind Enable to finish third in the Group 1 Coral Eclipse.

Before that this season he won a Group 3 at Sandown and was a solid third on his seasonal debut in a Group 2 behind the late Beat The Bank.

If he is on song and can come on for his latest run he has to be the one to beat.

6. Bangkok

Trainer - Andrew Balding

Jockey - Silvestre De Sousa

The final runner of the six runner race on Saturday is King Power's Bangkok who really needs to find his form from the start of the season after falling off the boil in the Epsom Derby.

He started the season with two wins, the first coming in a big fielded maiden at Doncaster and the next at Sandown in the bet365 Classic Trial.

The Derby run was poor but his last run showed he was on the road to recovery when second to Japan in the King Edward VII stakes at Royal Ascot.

Needs to be better again in this one but can't rule him out.
