Gary Moore sends one runner to the Grade Two Game Spirit Chase at Newbury on Saturday in the form of Editeur Du Gite. The ten-year-old arrives here at Newbury on the back of finishing last of five in the Grade One Clarence House Chase last month at Cheltenham after a bad mistake prevented any chance of him winning the race.

He had recorded a good win in the G2 Desert Orchid at Kempton after Christmas beforehand, with fellow runner and favourite there Boothill falling at the eighth fence. That was his best run for a while but he is a tough type who could bounce back in this contest.

The bold-jumping front runner will look to head into next month's Cheltenham Festival with a big run at Newbury but this does look like a competitive race with a few chances.

Alan King has the market favourite in this 2m G2 chase at Newbury in the form of ten-year-old Edwardstone. The gelding won the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival back in 2022 before recording arguably a career-best win in the Tingle Creek at Sandown towards the end of that year, beating the likes of Shishkin and Greaneteen.

He has been unable to record victory since then but has gone well a few times in the last couple of years, notably in the 2023 renewal of the Tingle Creek, finishing just under three lengths behind winner Jonbon to finish second.

He was ineffective up in trip at Kempton last time out but can bounce back here to record an overdue win in the hands of Tom Cannon.

Venetia Williams has one in this contest, with the back-to-back winner of this contest Funambule Sivola back in action this weekend. The nine-year-old triumphed by just over three lengths to win this last term, ahead of Elixir De Nutz and 1/2fav Greaneteen in third.

Since that victory, however, it has not been plain sailing for him at all. He fell in the G1 Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival at the third fence and has been fairly well held on five runs since then. The gelding's best run over the last year or so came when finishing third in a C2 handicap at Cheltenham in December.

Looks opposable for the hat-trick bid here on current form. Charlie Deutsch is booked to ride.

Harry Fry has one in the G2 Game Spirit Chase at Newbury on Saturday in the form of Boothill. The nine-year-old won three times over fences last season, with the pick of the bunch being his one-length win in the G2 Wayward Lad Novices' Chase at Kempton in December 2022.

He went into the G2 Desert Orchid at the same venue a year on as the market favourite following back-to-back successes at Ascot in November 23', but fell at the eighth when bidding for a hat-trick and another graded victory.

He looks well set to run a big race here and can bounce back for the duo of Fry and Jonathan Burke, who saddles here.

Amarillo Sky

The final horse in the race is Joe Tizzard's 153-rated chaser Amarillo Sky. The eight-year-old makes his seasonal reappearance after a year off here following finishing lame in the G1 Clarence House Chase at Cheltenham last January (finished fourth). He had gone into that contest with a lot of promise, after two wins at Cheltenham and Newbury in class two contests.

The gelding has failed to figure too much at this sort of level, with his best effort in graded company coming in the Grand Annual at 2022's Cheltenham Festival, where he finished fifth of sixteen in the hands of today's jockey Brendan Powell.

Difficult to predict his chances after the long lay-off but his graded form would be a concern.
