Lucinda Russell’s runner in the Grade Two this weekend is Ahoy Senor. The nine-year-old is in need of a return to form after being pulled up on his previous two starts this season. He was last seen being pulled up five from home in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury.

Ahoy Senor was a faller when travelling strongly in the G1 Gold Cup last year, and was a commanding winner over Sounds Russian in this race 12 months ago. If he is able to stage a recovery, then he could be hard to dismiss with Stephen Mulqueen aboard.

Age: 10
Weight: 11-10

Days: 63

Venetia Williams trains Royale Pagaille in the Cotswold Chase this weekend. The ten-year-old was back to his very best at Haydock earlier in the season, beating Bravemansgame fair and square by over six lengths in the G1 Betfair Chase.

He was in solid form at Cheltenham at the Festival last year, finishing a staying on sixth. Certainly goes strongly over this distance, and he could be the one to beat if repeating his effort last time out. However, it would be a concern that he is without a win in three efforts at Cheltenham.

Datsalrightgino will look to take his chance in graded company this weekend for Jamie Snowden. Gavin Sheehan will take the ride on the eight-year-old, who was last seen running very well at Newbury to land the Coral Gold Cup Handicap Chase by nearly four lengths from Mahler Mission.

He competed over an extended two miles and four at Cheltenham in the Magners Plate Handicap Chase at the Festival, but was pulled up after being sent off as the favourite. Should go well, but others have more obvious claims.

Harry Cobden

Stay Away Fay

J: Harry Cobden
T: Paul Nicholls

Age: 7
Weight: 11-7

Days: 50

The eye-catching runner in the race this weekend is Stay Away Fay for trainer Paul Nicholls. Harry Cobden will take the ride on the seven-year-old, who has looked very impressive over fences on his first two starts this season. He battled back against Giovinco most recently to land the G2 Esher Novices’ Chase.

Cheltenham certainly suits the Nicholls runner, and that was evident when landing the G1 Albert Bartlett at a big price at the Festival. Really interesting this weekend, and should be considered a very serious contender.

Days: 32

Patrick Neville’s runner in the race this weekend is The Real Whacker. The eight-year-old never really travelled in the G1 King George on his previous start, but he finished the three-mile distance strongly to finish fourth and ten lengths behind Hewick.

He was pulled up on his return to action in the Paddy Power Gold Cup, but he has plenty of likable Cheltenham form worth considering this weekend. That includes a success in the G1 Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase when beating Gerri Colombe by a short head. If back on song, he could offer value in the betting.

Paul Townend

Capodanno

J: Paul Townend
T: W P Mullins

Age: 8
Weight: 11-4

Days: 30

Willie Mullins sends Capodanno to the Cotswold Chase this weekend, with Paul Townend making the trip to take the ride. The eight-year-old has plenty to find on these rivals based on the ratings, but he did travel well for a long time when finishing off a strong third in the high-quality G1 Savills Chase.

He could have something to offer this weekend, but it remains to be seen whether Cheltenham suits after his fourth in the G1 Brown Advisory in 2022.
