Annie Power Mares Champion Hurdle Guide

1. Benie Des Dieux

T - Willie Mullins

J - Paul Townend

Benie Des Dieux will seek redemption in the Annie Power Mares Champion Hurdle, after falling at the last when clear in the Mares Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

Nicely poised down the side of the course, Ruby Walsh guided the eight-year-old into the lead and came to grief at the final flight in the same fashion that Annie Power (named for this race) did so back in 2015.

Paul Townend jumps aboard now as first jock to Mullins, and should be a cut above these if atoning for her Cheltenham mishap.

2. Good Thyne Tara

T - Willie Mullins

J - David Mullins

Picked up the pieces to finish third in the Mares Hurdle won by Roksana, after stablemate Benie Des Dieux had parted ways at the last.

Was badly hampered by the spill but stayed onto finish in the places, a result she can repeat today with a similar performance trouble-free.

Won a Grade Three at Leopardstown over Christmas on this surface.

3. Stormy Ireland

T - Willie Mullins

J - Rachael Blackmore

Mullins also has Mares Hurdle second Stormy Ireland, who attempted to make all the running at Cheltenham.

That result made it a hat-trick of seconds, after falling short here to Laurina in the Quevega Hurdle and Espoir D'Allen in the Independent Hurdle at Limerick.

Really strong form, and has twice confirmed the form with her stable companion Good Thyne Tara since beating her readily here in November.

4. Tintangle

T - Gordon Elliott

J - Jack Kennedy

Good efforts against talented novices at Cheltenham and at Fairyhouse, but does look up against it here.

Third at Cheltenham to Eglantine Du Seuil at large odds, before behind the same mare as well as the classy Honeysuckle in a Grade One at the Irish National meeting.

Fell on her last start here behind Sinoria in Listed company, and has a lot to find on ratings and performance levels.

5. With Discretion

T - Nicky Henderson

J - Nico De Boinville

Nico De Boinville will look to follow up his first victory in Ireland when guiding O O Seven to victory just a couple of days ago when he rides With Discretion in this.

Off the track for just over a year, she looked a bright prospect in winning her two races last season, striking at Newton Abbot and Towcester in novice company.

Very lightly raced and been absent since, could be a tough ask giving the heights of this race but could be the unknown quantity in the field and an outside player.
