Poet's Word

Today we are taking a look back at the 2018 renewal of the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes where Sir Michael Stoute landed the 1-2 with Poet's Word and Crystal Ocean.

A race for the ages, the two superstars went into battle in the straight at Ascot and only by the barest of margins Poet's Word managed to get the better of Crystal Ocean with James Doyle getting the better of his friend William Buick.

Poet's Word had a superb career, with this being the pinnacle but overall landed other races like the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at the 2018 Royal Ascot meeting when seeing off Cracksman.

Having also landed the Brigadier Gerard Stakes and Glorious Stakes, he also went onto finish second in some huge races like the Juddmonte International, Dubai Sheema Classic, Champion Stakes and Irish Champion Stakes.

The horses best performance however came in this event and today we are taking a look back at the special battle, with the 2022 renewal now just around the corner.

Enjoy!
