Throwback race of the day - 25/03/20

Throwback Race Of The Day

Yesterday we started a new segment at TWE with a throwback to one of the best races ever watched in the history of hors racing and we will be doing this every day of the pandemic.

Our first look back on Tuesday, looked into the Cheltenham festival and more importantly the 2017 renewal of the RSA Chase which saw Might Bite some how manage to get back up on the line after veering towards the crowd after the last fence.

However, everyday we are going to mix it up and today we are going for one of the special races from the last 20 years on the flat and we are starting with a cracker.

One of the biggest races every season on the flat is the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot where marathon stayers look to battle it out over two miles four furlongs for Group One glory.

Some of the biggest names of the sport have won this race during its time and with that there has come some epic duals and the one we are throwing back today is the 2017 renewal.

All the talk in the lead up to this race was about Aidan O'Brien's Order OfSt George who was looking to bag back to back renewals of the contest.

However, the headlines were made by James Doyle, Michael Bell and the superb Big Orange in what was a tough and gritty performance.

Enjoy!
