Sun Chariot Stakes Guide

1. Billesdon Brook

Trainer - Richard Hannon

Jockey - Sean Levey

The first horse in the race is last years 1000 Guineas winner Billesdon Brook who at times has been a very frustrating filly but recently has shown signs of getting back to her best.

Figures of 121 in her last three runs, winning a Listed event at Chelmsford before finishing second at Pontefract in a similar event.

Her latest outing gives her a good lead into the race scoring in a Group Three at Glorious Goodwood and although needing a huge step up looks to be back at her progressive best and could squeeze into the placings.

2. Crown Walk

Trainer - H-A Pantall

Jockey - Vincent Cheminaud

The first of the French raiders in the contest is Crown Walk who is one of the outsiders of the field and looks opposable from the form she has produced this season.

On her seasonal debut she was a weak fifth of six runners at Saint-Cloud in France and then when upped to a Group Three at Deauville she was less than impressive again making it hard to see her be involved here.

3. I Can Fly

Trainer - Aidan O'Brien

Jockey - Seamie Heffernan

The first of Aidan O'Brien's assault on the race comes through his four year old I Can Fly who has been fairly consistent in Group One races this season but has never really threatened to win anything.

She needs to reverse some form against some of these runners on Saturday but if matching her form from Glorious Goodwood when third in the Sussex Stakes, she could be in the mix.

4. Laurens

Trainer - Karl Burke

Jockey - P J McDonald

The four year old Laurens claimed her fifth Group One of her career when taking this back in 2018 seeing off the Aidan O'Brien trained Happily.

Karl Burke's filly has since added to her Group One winning CV when landing the Prix Rothschild at Deauville early on this season.

However, if she is to take this contest for he second year in a row she will have to better than her recent performances, finishing second in the Group Two City Of York Stakes and then a weak fourth in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown where again she was looking to score for a second consecutive year.

5. Veracious

Trainer - Sir Michael Stoute

Jockey - Oisin Murphy

The current joint favourite looks to have a big chance if matching her form from her last outing over course and distance at Newmarket when winning the Falmouth Stakes.

Oisin Murphy takes the ride again which is a bonus having sat on her the last day and with his latest run being some of the best form in the race she might be tough to pass.

6. Hermosa

Trainer - Aidan O'Brien

Jockey - Ryan Moore

Ballydoyle's big chance on the afternoon looks to be Hermosa, with the three year old performing to a very high standard in the majority of her races this season

The three year old started the season brightly winning on her seasonal debut in the 1000 Guineas over course and distance and then she landed the Irish equivalent at the Curragh.

She was touched off in second to shock French raider Watch Me losing her unbeaten record for the season last time out at Royal Ascot.

She was stepped up to 1 mile 2 furlongs in the Nassau Stakes where something was a miss and finished last of the pack and again she wasn't at he best in the Matron Stakes.

Hermosa finished second that day behind Iridessa and to go close here she will have to reverse that form.

7. Iridessa

Trainer - Joseph O'Brien

Jockey - Donnacha O'Brien

Arguably the value aspect in the race is Iridessa who has been slightly hit and miss this season but when on song is a very tough cookie to crack.

She won over course and distance as a two year old in the bet365 Fillies Mile and recently has shown that form again when scoring in the Matron Stakes beating many of this field at the Curragh and if no rain comes will be in the frame but the slow ground a big issue.

8. Lavender's Blue

Trainer - Amanda Perrett

Jockey - Robert Havlin

Amanda Perrett has a rare Group One entry with Lavender's Blue and she does not look out of sorts heading into this contest having won a Group Three contest last time out at Sandown in the Atalanta Stakes.

She is very unexposed only having four runs in her career but she will need the ground to dry to have ideal conditions having never run with soft in the going description.

9. Madeleine Must

Trainer - H-A Pantall

Jockey - Harry Bentley

The final runner of the feature piece is the second of the French raiders on display an this filly looks to be the better of the two winning a Listed event last time out at Longchamp.

However, this is much tougher especially for her first race in Britain but being at a younger age might help her adapt the conditions better than most.
