Cheltenham Festival Horserace

The Cheltenham Festival horse race takes place over a 4-day period in March of each year, next year’s (2018) runs from Tuesday the 13th to Friday the 16th of March.

Home of Jump racing, the Cheltenham Festival is never short of excitement. Originating in 1860 the event sees some of the best British and Irish-trained horses race. The Festival hosts several Grade I races; World Hurdle, Cheltenham Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle and the Queen Mother Chase.

It’s the spectacle event for National Hunt fans, as they prepare for four days of top class horse racing, with the best of the best competing against one another. The course also benefits from a noteworthy atmosphere and the “Cheltenham roar”, which refers to the noise generated from the crowd, as the races get under way.

Cheltenham Festival Horse Racing Fixtures

Throughout the 4-day event there are 28 races in total with a pot of at least £4 million in prize money.

The fourth day culminates in the emphatic Gold Cup race, prior to this are another 3 days consisting of seven races. Each day climaxes to a ‘Championship’ race, so you’re guaranteed an emphatic end to the days horse race.
