Throwback Race Of The Day - 20/10/20

Kameko

Today's throwback race looks at the 2019 Vertem Futurity Stakes at Newcastle with the two year old Group One being the final black type race of the flat season and bring a complete finish to the term.

Normally the race takes place at Doncaster, but last season due to adverse weather that saw lashings of rain fall on the track t Town Moor, the race was moved to Newcastle on the all weather with Donny being waterlogged.

Changing to the all weather suited some horses better and looking back at the juvenile event it went on to throw out some superstars.

On the day, the Andrew Balding trained Kameko went on to take the race that saw Aidan O'Brien field five runners and they all had to watch on as Oisin Murphy powered clear in the final stages.

Kameko has since gone on to land the Group One 2000 Guinea whilst also landing the Group Two Joel Stakes at Newmarket and now he is being prepared for a crack at the Breeders Cup meeting.
