Weekly Eye-Catchers – 22/05/17

At the start of each week we will be providing you with three eye-catching performances from the previous week of racing. Be it a horse that has bolted up, or one which was unlucky not to be first past the post, we believe over time these will give you a long list of next time out winners.

26/05/2017 – Goodwood 15:45 – Khalidi

Recent Form Figures: 3131

The John Gosden trained KHALIDI set alight the gallops of Goodwood on Friday with an emphatic five length victory in the listed EBF Stallions Cocked Hat Stakes. After getting held up towards the back for a majority of the 11f race, he kicked on inside the final two furlongs to rocket past the likes of Fierce Impact, 6/4 favourite Raheen House and Frankel Colt Monarchs Glen with Frankie even starting to pull him up yards before the finish line so the winning distance could well have been much more if he was ridden out. He is entered into The Derby this weekend but it is expected the race will come around just too soon for him so he will most likely be aimed at the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot. You can get him best priced 8/1 for this race at Paddy Power HERE.

27/05/2017 – Haydock 15:30 – Harry Angel

Recent Form Figures: 2121

Second on his seasonal reappearance in the Group 3 Merriebelle Stable Pavilion Stakes at Ascot behind Blue Point, the Clive Cox trained 3-y-0 HARRY ANGEL followed up that place in emphatic fashion last Saturday at Haydock as he galloped to a 4.5 length victory over Second Thought. Much was expected of the Dark Angel colt this season and he lived up to expectation in style as he made all then kicked on impressively in the last 300 yards with jockey Adam Kirby even managing to ease him down at the end to claim his second Group 2 success in his four race career. This performance has catapulted Harry to 7/2 second favourite for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot as he looks to break the unbeaten record of the Aidan O’Brien trained colt Caravaggio. He’s best priced 7/2 at Bet365 HERE.

28/05/2017 – Curragh 15:25 – Winter

Recent Form Figures: 211

The A P O’Brien trained 3-y-o filly WINTER made it a 1000 Guineas double in the space of three weeks as she cruised to victory in the Irish 1000 Guineas at The Curragh on Sunday. Held mid pack throughout the race, she kicked on inside the final 350 yards to follow up her tremendous victory in the British 1000 Guineas at Newmarket at the start of May. There was a tremendous amount of hype around what was Aidan O’Briens second string filly but after destroying stable mate Rhododendron at Newmarket, her 8/13 starting price for the Irish Guineas was more than justified with what was a fairly comfortable victory. She currently holds two entries for Royal Ascot in the Ribblesdale Fillies Stakes and the Coronation Cup but it is almost certain that she will run in the Coronation Cup and at odds of 4/5 with Bet365, she is most definitely going to be the one to beat.
