Weekly Eye-Catchers – 15/05/17

At the start of each week we will be providing you with three eye-catching performances from the previous week of racing. Be it a horse that has bolted up, or one which was unlucky not to be first past the post, we believe over time these will give you a long list of next time out winners.

11/05/17 – Chester 14:25 – Poet’s Word

Recent Form Figures: 1212

The first of this week’s eye-catchers is the Sir Michael Stoute trained POET’S WORD. Following some impressive outings in lower classes, the 4-y-o colt stepped up into Group3 company at Chester on Thursday and was very unlucky not to come away with the win. After being held up, he began to make some encouraging headway as he clawed down Aidan O’Brien’s Deauville, but it all came fractionally too late with Ryan Moore doing just enough on the winner.

12/05/17 – Ascot 18:40 – Mori

Recent Form Figures: 51

MORI, the daughter of the legendary Midday by Frankel lived up to her fine reputation on Friday, coming on leaps and bounds from her debut to win impressively. She was ridden fairly early, but once in-front stayed on well to leave second place Glittering Girl for dead. There was at least 7lengths between her and the rest of the field, and with further progression expected Sir Michael Stoute could have another high-class filly on his hands.

14/05/17 – Curragh 14:55 – Acapulco

Recent Form Figures: 1

The 2015 Queen Mary Stakes winner ACAPULCO looks a very interesting recruit to the Aidan O’Brien yard. After almost 200 days off the track, he was thrown into a listed event at Curragh on Sunday, where he won in good fashion despite not seeming to get out of second gear. Admittedly, the race lacked depth, but this should bring her on a large amount and she could be a dangerous Aidan O’Brien charge at Ascot.
