Hong Kong beckons for the UK’s best…

The biggest day in Asian horse racing beckons as the Longines International Race Day at Sha Tin in Hong Kong gets closer.

It has already been confirmed that A P O’Brien’s Breeders Cup Turf winner HIGHLAND REEL will be leading the Irish contingent over there with stablemate COUGAR MOUNTAIN following suit. The Clive Cox 4-y-o colt PROFITABLE completes Ireland’s participation at Sha Tin. He won the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot this year but has unfortunately hit a poor run of form so connections will be hoping that he can find a way of reversing the form and claiming the £1.9M prize money.

But Profitable will be coming up against the Dr Marwan Koukash owned listed winner GROWL who will be looking to build on his last ditch win in the Wentworth Stakes at Doncaster at the start of this month. Growl is joined by fellow British horse and Goodwood Cup winner BIG ORANGE who will be looking to get over his 10th place finish in the Melbourne Cup and make a real impact in Hong Kong.

Ireland and the UK will not however be the best represented nations from Europe with France having six entries into numerous races at the meeting. Erupt, Silverware, One Foot In Heaven and Garlingari all looks set to battle it out in the Vase whilst the Andre Fabre trained Elliptique will be aiming to reign victorious in the Hong Kong Cup. Also joining the French contingent will be Signs Of Blessing who is entered into what looks to be an extremely strong field for the Sprint.

The notable entry from Asia is the Japanese colt A Shin Hikari. Much was expected from the Masanori Sakaguchi trained 5-y-o but a shocking performance in the Prince Of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot has pegged back many peoples expectations heading into what will be an extremely interesting 2017 for the horse.
