The Ladbrokes Winter Carnival – Weekend 4Fold

The Ladbrokes Winter Carnival headlines an exciting weekend of racing and we have put together four of our stronger fancies to make up a tasty looking acca. The races featured are the Long Distance Hurdle, Novices’ Chase, Fighting Fifth and finally the Ladbrokes Trophy.

Find each selection with reasoning below..

Friday 13:50 – Novices Chase

Willoughby Court 15/8

We are opposing the odds on favourite in Yanworth for this one. Both this chase starts have been less than encouraging and we believe Ben Pauling’s Willoughby Court is the one to side with. The Huntingdon track was all wrong for him on chase debut but he still managed to get his head in-front, and back on a left-handed track with some cut in the ground he will be a tough nut to crack from the front.

Friday 15:00 – Long Distance Hurdle

Thistlecrack 11/10

The Crack returns to the track on Friday and if all is well then he will be very hard to beat getting 6lb from Uknowhatimeanharry. It seems crazy that he is in receipt of weight but there is no complaints from us, the 11/10 we have taken could well turn out a steal on reflection. Colin’s Sister looks a good e/w bet out at 14/1 if you aren’t keen but we feel Tizzard will have him primed for this, before moving onto bigger and better things.

Saturday 14:10 – Fighting Fifth Hurdle

Buveur D’air 4/11

Although as short as 4/11 we believe there is nothing wrong in adding Buvuer D’air to your acca this weekend. Seeking the 7-timer, he looks a horse packed with ability and is one we are very excited about. You can’t knock the form of his decisive win at Cheltenham and he proved himself fresh on last year’s seasonal return. Apple’s Jade is worth a snip e/w but we won’t be going against the favourite here.

Saturday 15:10 – Ladbrokes Trophy

Total Recall 9/2

Total Recall features in our ‘horses to follow’ blog and he looks to have a cracking chance in the Ladbrokes Trophy. This race has been the target since hosing up on debut for Willie Mullins and they seem quite sweet on his chances: ”You need loads of stamina to win this race and I think he has that. It looks like it should be perfect racing ground and I hope he’ll run a big race.” He’s taken a hike in the weights but he won with plenty on hand and we’d be surprised if he didn’t take it in his stride.
