Sunday’s Pick of the Meetings

Sunday’s Pick of the Meetings

The weekend’s racing comes to a conclusion on Sunday, but there is plenty of action to keep race fans entertained. With meetings at Curragh, Downpatrick, Leicester and Windsor, we have picked five of our favourite bets from Sunday’s four venues.

4:20 Leicester

Recollect – 6/4

The Class 4 Cropston Handicap looks a penalty kick for the recent course and distance winner RECOLLECT.

The Luca Cumani colt looks by far in away the horse best treated in this race for three-year-olds.

Whilst the is carrying a penalty he looks like a horse heading in the right direction and looks to have more potential than any of his six rivals.

Sun 3:35 Curragh

Advertise – 9/4

The biggest race in Ireland this weekend is the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes. This 6f sprint looks winnable for in-form ADVERTISE who can turn over odds on Coolmore runner Sergei Prokofiev.

The two-year-old won on debut before coming second at Royal Ascot. The Colt won his group that day, going down by only a length to Calyx in the Coventry Stakes.

The Martyn Meade trained runner got off the mark in group company at Newmarket last month in which was his third and most recent win.

Improvement is still a distinct possibility and he can overcome a huge army of runners entered by Aiden O’Brien and add another black type race to his CV.

Saxon Warrior ridden by Donnacha O’Brien win The Irish Times Irish EBF Maiden during Tipperary Crystal Race Day at Curragh Racecourse, County Kildare.

4:10 Curragh

Smash Williams – 8/1

SMASH WILLIAMS can get his head in front in the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club Phoenix Stakes. This Group 3 is full of exposed and unpredictable sorts.

The Jim Bolger trained Gelding came second in a Group 3 similar to this at Leopardstown in June. Smash Williams also held his own in a Group 2 race last time out at this track.

If running up to his current mark he can most certainly hit the frame again. With over 35,000 euros to the winner, it is certainly a prize worth having.

2:40 Downpatrick

Political Policy – 3/1

In the Major William Brownlow Memorial Rated Hurdle the well treated POLITCAL PARTY can make it a three timer over the smaller obstacles.

The horse has spent the majority of its career on the flat, however running over hurdles has seen it first past the post twice in three runs.  Of his recent victories one of them was at Downpatrick.

The seven-year-old can beat interesting bottom weight Go Another One to continue his good start to life over hurdles.

Windsor 6:10

Itlaaq – 3/1

The last race of the weekend in Britain and Ireland is the Royal Windsor Amateur Riders Handicap. Whilst he is the likely favourite, ITLAAQ looks a worthy one.

He veteran 12-year-old does have a small penalty to overcome after his fine win at Musselburgh last week. However, the horse is in fine fettle having also won recently at Ripon.

Michael Easterby is a shrewd man when it comes to selecting winners and is 15% for the last 14 days. If the horse can carry on its good form Itlaaq can add to his ten career wins with Sophie Brotherton aboard.
