Britain’s Saturday’s Pick of the Meetings

Britain’s Saturday’s Pick of the Meetings

Great Britain plays host to six race cards on the Saturday with some very sharp contests especially at Haydock where the feature race of the day is a Group 3.

2:50 Ascot

Bless Him (6/1)

The Shergar Cup at Ascot takes place on Saturday. There are six handicaps on this tricky card, however we think we have found the winner in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Mile.

There are only three horses in the race that have won over this distance at Ascot and we are siding with one of them. BLESS HIM shocked punters at the Royal meeting at 25/1 last year and can win again at shorter odds.

He has yet to see the winners enclosure since last year’s victory, however his run at the Royal meeting this year looked a step in the right direction. This was then followed up with another solid run at York. Sired by Sea the Stars, the Qatar Racing owned 4-year-old can have punters celebrating at the Berkshire course once again.

3:45 Newmarket

Main Edition – 11/4

The feature race at horse racing HQ is the Group 3 Sweet Solero stakes. This was won by Richard Hannon’s Tajaanus last year and he again saddles two in the race.

Despite this we are siding with Mark Johnston’s MAIN EDITION in this race for two year olds. The horse won his first three starts including at Royal Ascot and whilst he is stepping up to 7f it could well suit this son of Zoffany.

The horse was thoroughly disappointing when flopping at Newmarket amongst listed company on its last run, however we feel it can bounce back here on its group racing debut.

1:30 Chelmsford City

Sapa Inca – 9/4

There is a seven-race card over in Essex on Saturday and SAPA INCA can get punters off to a flyer in the Bet toteplacepot At Maiden Fillies Stakes.

This looks a match-up between the selection and likely favourite Toffee Galore. Sapa Inca has yet to see a racetrack, however the price tag of 200,000 gns means connections would be disappointed if it can’t be competitive in a class 4 handicap.

The favourite hardly set the world alight on debut and this looks an ideal opportunity for the Mark Johnston trained Filly to lose its maiden tag at the first time of asking.

Second Thought ridden by jockey Robert Winston going to post prior to the 32Red 3 Year Old All-Weather Championships Conditions Stakes

14:20 Redcar

Tight Lines – 8/1

In a mammoth eight-race card at Redcar there are various small and medium sized fields to get your teeth stuck into.

The DFDS World’s Best Ferry Operator Handicap only has 5 declared runners with all having a realistic chance of winning. Rank outsider TIGHT LINES looks over-priced considering he is dropping in grade.

The horse ran admirably in races similar to this in July and at 8/1, the Filly looks remarkably over-priced.

3:40 Haydock

Markazi – 13/2

Whilst by no means the best race of the day at Haydock, The Lester Piggott 70th anniversary handicap can go to the interesting MARKAZI on his debut run for David O’Meara.

With Andrea Atzeni aboard, this French import looks well handicapped. Previously a winner at listed level in France when under the tutelage of Jean-Claude Rouget, the horse is relatively lightly raced in comparison to others in the race.

Its only run this year was a win at Marseille in June and the selection is our nap of the day at Haydock.

8:15 Lingfield

Resolution – 10/1

Lingfield’s evening meeting on turf looks a difficult card to navigate through. The last race is the Follow Top Tipsters At Sun Racing Novices Stakes and RESOLUTION can send the punters home with a smile.

The top two horses are taking a major chunk out of the market without showing any real form. Whilst the selection showed he was no superstar in his one and only run at Leicester, he did seem to get the message late after being slow into stride.

With improvement likely the Filly looks decent value in what seems a strange market.
