Saturday ITV Racing And Shergar Cup Preview – 11/08/2018

13:05 Ascot

Cerise, black inverted triangle and yoke, black stars on sleeves, white cap (Miss J Deadman & Mr S Barrow)

Tis Marvellous – 6/1

Saturday’s coverage begins with the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Dash and we’re going for the favourite Tis Marvellous.

This Clive Cox trained handicapper can win the first race of this Shergar Cup meeting. Tis Marvellous  has been in fairly good form over the sprinting distances of 5 and 6 furlongs but last time out had a bad day in the Stewards Cup at Goodwood.

This four year old in a smaller field on Saturday can get back to being competitive and will find this Ascot track easier to handle.

13:40 Ascot

Emerald green, black inverted triangle and yoke, black stars on sleeves, white cap (Mr R W Huggins)

 Jukebox Jive – 9/2

We stay at Ascot for the second race of the day, with the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Stayers taking place at 13:40.

The Anthony Honeyball trained four-year old is the top weight in the race but has a lot of positives in is fvaurthe biggest one being stamina.

Ran really well on his last outing over 2 miles in Listed company at Sundown. Has been raised four pounds for that outing but can justify that if going well again, should be in the mix leading from the front.

13:55 Haydock

Birds of Prey – 7/2

The second race at Haydock is the Haydock Park Ladies Trophy Handicap (Pro-Am Lady Riders). With Jockey selection proving crucial in such races, the Paul Nicholls trained BIRDS OF PREY can get back to winning ways.

The useful Megan Nicholls is aboard and with many of the other jockeys unproven, she could make all the difference.

The 4-year-old, already out of Sir Prancealot, has two wins to his name over in Ireland and will be looking for his first win in the UK. A race like this looks well within his capabilities.

14:15 Ascot

Yellow, black sash, black cap (Taplin & Bunney Partnership)

 Koeman – 6/1

Up next, a return to Ascot for the third time in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Challenge

There are thirty-five runners that could go to post in this open handicap, and many people would probably suggest it is more of a viewing proposition.

However, consistency is key for horses coming into this race and KOEMAN is that horse. Sired by Dutch Art, this Mick Channon trained Colt won over course and distance at the end of July and consistently hits the frame in Class 3 races.

14:50 Ascot

Yellow, black inverted triangle and yoke, hooped sleeves, black cap (Qatar Racing Limited)

  Bless Him – 8/1

The next race at Ascot sees 37 runners challenge over 7f in a Class 2 Handicap in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Mile. There are only three horses in the race that have won over this distance at Ascot and we are siding with one of them.

BLESS HIM shocked punters at the Royal meeting at 25/1 last year and can win again at shorter odds. He has yet to see the winners enclosure since last year’s victory, however his run at the Royal meeting this year looked a step in the right direction.

This was then followed up with another solid run at York. Sired by Sea the Stars, the Qatar Racing owned 4-year-old can have punters celebrating at the Berkshire course once again.

15:05 Haydock

Elwazir – 5/2

The Group 3 Rose of Lancaster Stakes was won by a horse out of Frankel last year, and ELWAZIR can follow in Frankuus footsteps.

The Owen Burrow’s trained horses last two races have been won with relative ease and this step up into black type races looks thoroughly realistic.

Like our previous selection the improvement we could see is limitless and is likely to result in another winner Lambourn based trainer with top jockey Jim Crowley on board.

15:25 Ascot

Light blue, black inverted triangle and yoke, hooped sleeves, black cap (Mr Abdullatif M Al-abdulrazzaq)

 Jazzel – 6/1

We’re going for Jazeel in the 15:25 at Ascot in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Classic.

Mick Channon has finally unlocked the answer as to how to get the horse to start his races with good affect, Jazeel is a good price to win this face over 1m 4f.

This three year Oldham been upped to 1 mile 2 furlongs and reveled in it when winning well at Sandown last time out. Up again another 2 furlongs on Saturday he is worth another gamble on.

15:45 Newmarket

Yellow, black and yellow striped sleeves, white cap (W J And T C O Gredley)

 Main Edition – 5/2

The one ITV race from Newmarket this weekend is the Sweet Solera Stakes. The Group 3 Sweet Solero stakes was won by Richard Hannon’s Tajaanus last year. He again saddles two in the race.

Despite this we are siding with Mark Johnston’s MAIN EDITION in this race for two-year-olds. The horse won his first three starts including at Royal Ascot and whilst he is stepping up to 7f it could well suit this son of Zoffany.

The horse was thoroughly disappointing when flopping at Newmarket amongst listed company on its last run, however we feel it can bounce back here on its group racing debut.

16:00 Ascot

Cerise, black inverted triangle and yoke, hooped sleeves, black cap (Leeds Plywood And Doors Ltd)

  Roundhay Park – 6/1

The lucky last at Ascot is the annual Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Sprint that sees another large field go to post in a handicap over 6f.

There is plenty to like about Nigel Tinkler’s ROUNDHAY PARK who looks on a decent mark. He defied his long odds of 33/1 to finish third in a similar race at Newmarket last time out.

Whilst the form of that race hasn’t work out brilliantly it looks a stronger race than this one and he can gain his first victory over the distance to send readers of this blog home happy.
