Royal Ascot 2017

What a festival it has been! Royal Ascot is always a memorable 5 days, but this year we’ve been treated to one of the best with a combination of upsets and eye-catching performances under the boiling hot Berkshire sun.

We’ve put together our 3 favourite moments from all 30 races, as well as a personal highlight for all ITV Racing viewers! 😉

 Tuesday 20th June – King’s Stand Stakes

Lady Aurelia Hoses Up On Ascot Return

Wesley Ward’s charge returned to Royal Ascot with a heavy reputation following last year’s 7length victory, but as with many 2-y-o stars there were questions asked regarding her progression into life as a 3-y-o. She did win comfortably on reappearance back in Keeneland but the form of the race was near-impossible to judge, leaving her at a tasty 4/1 in the market. Unbelievable price on reflection!

Nudged into 7/2 before the off, this exciting filly made a mockery of the bookies sailing home like an odds on shot should do so. Velazquez pressed from the front and just simply wasn’t being caught – she is seriously fast 🏇🏼💨

Thursday 22nd June – Ascot Gold Cup

Big Orange Fends Off OrderOfStGeorge

Big Orange has become popular amongst punters following some memorable victories throughout his career and he went and topped them all with a fine performance in the Ascot Gold Cup. Aidan O’Brien’s Orderofstgeorge was a firm favourite going into the race and with Big Orange’s usual partner Frankie Dettori out injured it looked a tough ask, but under the same tactics James Doyle gave it an absolute peach of a ride – landing the horses first ever Group1 event!

Favourite backers were cursing Ryan Moore’s decision to give Orderofstgeorge so much to do which we feel is a little harsh. He got the horse into a fair position to win the race with around a furlong to go, but Big Orange just wasn’t being passed. They both battled hard, providing us with one of the most exciting Gold Cups to date. Make sure you give this one a watch below!

Friday 23rd June – Commonwealth Cup

Caravaggio Shows His Class

The Commonwealth Cup was hyped up to be the race of the festival and it did not disappoint. With the Godolphin duo of Harry Angel and Blue Point locking horns with Aidan O’Brien’s undefeated Caravaggio and Wesley Ward’s unknown import Bound For Nowhere we had punters scratching their heads, with one waiting on the latter for a juicy £1million payout! 😲👇🏻

It wasn’t to be though, with Ryan Moore’s mount showing his class as soon as the path opened up, dealing with the Godolphin pair without really getting his own way. The Irish Champion trainer has been bullish about this colt for a while and he looks to have a very bright future.

Royal Ascot – ITV RACING

And finally, the highlight of the week for the ITV Racing viewers amongst you…

Lucy Verasamy & Francesca Cumani! 😂
