Day Four Cheltenham Festival Preview

13:30 - Sir Erec & Pic D'Orhy

The first race of the day is the Grade 1 Triumph Hurdle and we have two fancies in this contest with the Irish banker of the week with Sir Erec and the Paul Nicholls trained Pic D'Orhy.

Sir Erec for trainer Joseph O'Brien has been superb on both his runs over hurdles so far in his career winning both and last time out in the Grade 1 Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown beating many of his rivals today.

We expect Sir Erec to win this contest but from an interesting each way angle we have sided with Pic D'Orhy who joins Nicholls yard after running creditably in France and if converting his form from there over in England he will be a serious contender on his first start for this thriving yard.

14:10 - Capitaine & Mohaayed

The second race of the day see's the Randox Health Handicap Hurdle over 2 miles 1/2 furlong and in this Grade 3 contest we have gone for Capitaine and Mohaayed.

This Paul Nicholls trained runner looks to have a great chance in this contest, Capitaine is an interesting runner for the Ditcheat trainer who also won last time out landing a huge gamble from 16/1 into 3s before the off in a Class 2 Handicap at Taunton and overall bought up his trainers 3,000 career winner.

The next is the Dan Skelton trained Mohaayed who has ran in far better races than this contest on Friday this season and with the added bonus of Silver Streak's place in the Champion Hurdle yesterday his form line has took a boost.

14:50 Dinons & Rhinestone

The penultimate Grade 1 of the festival see's the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle and in this 3 mile contest we have gone for Dinons and Rhinestone.

The Gordon Elliott trained Dinons has been frequently raced throughout the spring and autumn and then was saved for this festival not running since November.

Before his poor last performance he had won his last five in a row including a Grade 2 at Cheltenham giving him strong course form.

Rhinestone for Joseph O'Brien was a really progressive bumper horse and now this season over hurdles has also been progressive really giving his best performance last time out when finishing second in a Grade 1 Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown which was perfect preparation for this race today.

15:30 Presenting Percy & Might Bite

The feature race of the day and the overall four day festival is the Magners Gold Cup over 3 miles 2 furlongs and in this contest that looks one of the most competitive renewals in a long time we have gone for Presenting Percy and Might Bite.

The Pat Kelly trained Presenting Percy has been the talk of the festival after not having a run over fences all season and possibly going off as favourite for one of the biggest chase races of the season.

The eight year old has only had one run this season, coming over hurdles at Gowran Park putting in a gritty performance to beat some classy horses.

He has course form after his special eight length victory in the RSA last season and if being as good as normal over fences he has to be the one to beat.

The each way selection in this contest is the conspicuous Might Bite who as we all know has not been right this season but if being back fit and ready after his infection, could just throw up one of the training performances of the season by Nicky Henderson.

16:10 Hazel Hill & Caid Du Berlais

The Foxhunters Chase over 3 miles 2 furlongs is the next contest on offer and we have gone for Hazel Hill and Caid Du Berlais to perform well.

This race normally see's a cluster of runners go to post and with that is more places on offer with certain bookmakers.

The first horse we think has a great chance is the Phillip Rowley trained Hazel Hill who is unbeaten on both his starts this season, his latest at Warwick was a superb jumping performance and if repeating that could be right in the mix.

The final pick in this one is Caid Du Berlais for trainer Rose Lexton who does not have many horses at her yard but when she does they always go on to perform well.

This 10 year old has course form and on his only start this season he went on to win in good style and if building from that could play a part in this tough race for punters.

16:50 Diakali & Theflyingportrait

The penultimate race of the festival see's the Grade 3 Grand Annual Handicap Chase and we have gone with the Gary Moore trained Diakali and the Jennie Candish trained Theflyingportrait.

Diakali is a horse with course and distance form and although he was quite lucky that day it certainly would not be a shock to see him finish in the top three or four depending on the bookmakers.

With this we also have Theflyingportrait who has been ultra consistent this season especially in his last three runs with figures of 121 and if repeating these runs could nudge himself into contention.

17:30 Pym & Mount Mews

The last contest for the four days of the best racing over jumps see's the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle over 2 miles 4 furlongs and Pym and Mount Mews are our selections.

The Nicky Henderson trained Pym has not quite lived up to expectations this season but has still ran to a fair standard with figures of 1221 and his latest win a good gritty performance against another juvenile at Kempton.

Mount Mews is another interesting character that if performing to the same standard as he has over hurdles in his career he could feature strongly. He made a decent debut for the Donald McCain yard and can kick on from there.
