Irish Guineas Weekend Double

Irish Guineas Weekend Double

This weekend sees the Irish 1000 and 2000 Guineas at the Curragh. A spectacle that many believe is one of the highlights of the Irish Flat season. It’s no surprise that elite trainer Aidan O’Brien dominated this day last year, training the winners of both races with Winter & Churchill.

Although it’s far from original, we see both of the current market leaders to go close and have provided our reasoning below:

Irish 2000 Guineas – ELARQAM

Mark Johnston sends over his British raider ELARQAM to the Curragh in a bid to upstage the Irish, and we are backing him to do so. He’s already been supported in the market and all the signs are positive. He ran a decent race in his 4th place finish in the 2000 Guineas with Aidan O’Brien’s Gustav Klimt was in-behind that day, who had already had their seasonal reappearance. Elarqam will come on plenty and should go close.

Irish 1000 Guineas – HAPPILY

Happily went off favourite in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, and although not winning, positives can be taken from her run. She’s won two out of her three races at the Curragh and should go very close again here. The noises coming out of O’Briens stable are very bullish which is very encouraging. Ryan Moore is booked and is on great form – everything looks set for a huge run and a bounce back to victory.

This double pays just over 13/2 with Betfair.
