Guineas Quiz

This weekend sees the return of Group1 action to Newmarket as some of the best 3-y-o’s in training battle it out for the 1000 & 2000 Guineas. With a total of £567,100 in prize money, these two feature races kick-start the top class flat action for the year, with the former being the opening leg of the ‘triple crown’.

To whet your appetite for the big event, you can test your knowledge with our 10-fold mixed guineas quiz – make sure you tweet in with your score!

We also have our selections for both races on site:

2000 Guineas:

Our Selection: Eminent 9/2

Recent Form Figures: 11

Martyn Meade’s highly-rated EMINENT is our selection for the 2000 Guineas. Following a very impressive debut, the son of Frankel returned to Newmarket to give some very smart horses a pasting in the Craven Stakes. Churchill holds the obvious form claims as one of last year’s major stars, but at a much bigger price we are willing to bank on further improvement from our selection. Both of his wins have also been over the Rowley Mile on good-to-firm, so his preparation on the track couldn’t have been any better.

1000 Guineas

Our Selection: Fair Eva 6/1

Recent Form Figures 133

Frankel filly Fair Eva built up a fine reputation as a 2-y-o with some impressive runs, and with connections bullish about her chances in the Guineas some progress has clearly been made over the winter. Relatives such as Eminent have come on magnificently, and if Fair Eva can add to the raw ability she clearly had we could be looking at a real star. The fact they have had no preparation run suggests they feel she is a horse which will go well fresh, so we are expecting more than a run for our money out at 6/1.
