Frankie Dettori To Swerve Shergar Cup At Ascot To Ride At Newmarket

Frankie Dettori returns after winning The QIPCO 2000 Guineas Stakes Race run onboard Galileo Gold during QIPCO 2000 Guineas Day of the QIPCO Guineas Festival at Newmarket Racecourse.

Frankie Dettori has today announced that he will not be going to Ascot on Saturday for the Shergar Cup meeting with the experienced Gerald Mosse taking his place within the European team for the day being joined by Per Anders Graberg and Andrasch Starke .

Dettori is a four time previous winner of Ascot’s unusual racing event as captain of Europe and rest of the world but he will not be taking part this year due to having rides for John Gosden at Newmarket and overall his commitments to the trainer rank higher.

However, Mosse is an experienced jockey that has a brilliant record in the Shergar Cup meeting winning the Alistair Haggis Silver Saddle in 2008 and 2013 as captain of the European team. This title is given to the winning most rider at the meeting and to take the honours twice is some achievement.

Dettori saddles three horses at Newmarket on Saturday and the best of his runs comes from the talented youngster Pennywhistle. Having won her maiden race over course and distance she will be looking to grab more success over the 7 furlongs Group 3 German – thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes at 9/2.

The Italians other two rides include Fennaan in the 4:20 BBAG Germany’s Yearling Sales Handicap and Shambolic in the first race of the day .
