Close Call At Chepstow

In yesterday’s finale at Chepstow’s evening meeting, Oisin Murphy was aboard Andre Balding’s 4-y-o stayer ‘Sir Pass I Am’ who readily went clear of the rest of the pack with a few furlongs to go, but the highly-rated young jockey gave his backers a big scare as he eased down on the winner.

The horse was almost stationary approaching the finishing post as the rest of the field clawed back ground, and what should have been a wide margin victory almost became a photo finish between the top three. If he was to have been pipped, which he was lucky not to have, there is no doubt that some form of punishment would have been handed out. So why not in this case?

Betting in terms of distances and spreads have been affected just as the result would have been had he lost, if you was waiting on a few lengths for your distances bet in the final race of the day you would have been sick watching it!
