Chester Lucky31

Due to popular demand, we have another Lucky31 for you to get stuck into for this week’s action over at Chester. The Newmarket version got off to a flyer with Marsha obliging out at 10/1, but wasn’t able to continue in the same form, paying out a small profit of £25.

We look to add to this total over the next few days, with the Chester Cup and the all important derby trials topping the list of what looks a brilliant week of racing!

Our Selection: Enable 2/1

To kick us off, we have the John Gosden trained filly ENABLE in the Cheshire Oaks. Priced at 2/1, she looks a good pick to get our lucky31 underway for the week following an impressive run back from a break last time out. Behind the Racing Post Trophy 4th and stable-mate Shutter Speed, she quickened up well late on to just be denied second place, and with that run expected to bring her on then we should see something more clinical this time out.

She was never catching Shutter Speed that day, but with her sat in second in the derby market this could be potentially be some very smart form, therefore we are willing to take on O’Brien’s favourite Alluringly despite his record in the race.

Our Selection: El Astronaute 5/1

El Astronaute is our pick for the Boodles Diamond Handicap. Following a disappointing display at Haydock back in September, he overcame a 227-day absence to win in good style at Newmarket 3 weeks ago. Despite racing freely, he managed to maneuver through the pack to get up close home in-front of the re-opposing/subsequent-winner Majestic Hero.

Jason Hart, who was on-board to give a peach of a ride that day is back on-board, making him huge value at 5/1 from the plum draw off 2lb higher.

Our Selection: Who Dares Wins 10/1

In the feature race of the day (The Chester Cup) we have gone for a rare flat runner for Alan King in Who Dares Wins. Many a cross-code horse have won this race, and this 5-y-o arrives here off the back of a brilliant effort at Cheltenham, finishing 3rd in the Coral Cup.

To add to this, on his only visit to the track he bolted up by 5lengths, which when added to the fact that conditions will suit and he has a favourable draw, make 10/1 an irresistible price.

10/05/17 – Chester 16:05

Our Selection: Stradivarius 2/1

In a lesser handicap than the above we have a strong fancy in Stradivarius. Gosden’s 3-y-o colt beat a bunch of subsequent winners in a Newcastle maiden back in November, before striking with ease at Beverley last month. Although this 6 length victory caught the eye, he took a while to get going that day, meaning meaning this step up in trip should only bring out further progress despite the rise in weights.

11/05/17 – Chester 15:35

Our Selection: Venice Beach 5/2

Aidan O’Brien looks to extend his excellent record in the Chester Vase by fielding 4 of the 8 runners on Thursday. For us though, the pick of the bunch is the highly-rated Venice Beach. The step up to 1m4f suited him down to the ground at Tipperary last month, and we are expecting him to do the business over the same trip this time out as O’Brien and Moore go for the 5-timer.
