Grade Two Mares Chase Guide 2023

Impressively won this race last year, edging out Pink Legend by half a length at 9/4. Has since been a bit disappointing, finishing second behind Scarlet And Dove at Punchestown before a couple of fourth-place finishes in arguably lesser company.

Despite recent form, she runs well here having won this contest last year and finishing second the year before and should be respected purely off that festival experience.

Second to Elimay in this race last year by half a length, but hasn’t put up the best of form since that good run despite winning a Listed event last month at Exeter to arrive here on a high. Has been pretty good around here in previous years though.

Difficult to gauge chances but has done well here before and shouldn’t be discounted.

Fourth in this race last year, behind Scarlet And Dove, Pink Legend and winner Elimay. Landed two listed chases this season at Carlisle and Doncaster before second to Jeremys Flame last time out at Huntingdon 49 days ago, losing out by six and a half lengths.

Likely to find a few too good here on that form having finished behind Jeremys Flame and once behind Pink Legend.

Experienced nine-year-old since her running debut in 2018 winning five races over fences with her most recent victories the most impressive.

Landed grade three at Naas in November before fifth of seven in the Grade One Paddy’s Rewards Club Chase, where Blue Lord won by 11 lengths.

Bounced back to win class one listed event at Huntingdon in January, beating fellow runner Zambella by six lengths. Can continue her improvement here to be in with a chance of victory.

Arrives at this contest in good form over fences, finishing outside the top three just once in eight starts.

Claimed good listed success at Clonmel in November before second of five to Scarlet And Dove in a grade three chase over 2m 5f.

This is a different test in better company and may struggle to handle that despite good form over the larger obstacles in recent times. Danny Mullins rides for Willie Mullins here.

Six-year-old chaser for Gordon Elliott who comes to the Mares’ Chase after being off for 110 days, following a poor run at Carlisle in November, finishing last of four in a contest that Zambella won.

Seventh in the Boodles in 2021 here before winning a grade two chase at Punchestown and a grade three at Navan.

Not quite the same since but did ok in the Arkle last year, finishing fifth but after a break, it is difficult to say how well she can do here in a strong race.

Magic Daze arrives here in decent form, having won two of her last four chases at 2m on both occasions.

Handicap victory at Punchestown last April was followed by two second-place finishes before winning listed class one at Naas last month, ahead of Dinoblue.

This is both a step up in trip and class, which may be too much for her and she was unconvincing in the Arkle last year, finishing eighth.

Arrives here unbeaten since joining Willie Mullins yard, winning both starts over fences at Limerick and Thurles. First win was impressive, over 2m 6f, winning a grade two chase by 19 lengths before scoring again on her next run Thurles in January over 2m 4f, winning by 19 lengths again.

Nothing has been close to her so far but this is in even better company and she has jumped slightly to the right at times and this is a left handed course but there’s so much potential with this six-year-old mare.

Impervious brings leading claims into this one, with her record over fences three out of three so far in her career. Won at 13/8 favourite on debut over fences at Wexford in October before making it two out of two at Cork in December in a grade two.
Grade three success followed at Punchestown in January, beating Journey With Me to come here at a price of around 9/4 for the Mares’ Chase. Big chance of continuing that form.
