Champions Day Preview

Action packed day ahead at Ascot…

This weekend sees the last major meeting of the 2016 flat racing season as we head to Ascot for the eagerly anticipated Champions Day. As always, we have some top class racing on show – with the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes being the obvious pick of the bunch. The likes of Ribchester, Alice Springs & Galileo Gold all go head to head in a race which will make the winning party a whopping £623,810 richer.

Antepost betting is where you will find the best value for Champions Day, therefore we have listed our early picks below alongside the bookmaker offering the healthiest price:

13:25 – Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group 2) (Class 1) In what will be a hotly contested race to kickstart Champions Day, we have opted for the trustworthy pairing of Roger Chartlon & George Baker in the form of QUEST FOR MORE. The 6-y-o gelding has form of 1-2-1 in his previous three outings, making 12/1 great value if Baker executes his usually brilliant front-running tactics on-board. Best Priced at Betway (Bet £10 Get £30 HERE)

14:00 – Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) In the first Group 1 affair of the day we have opted for Henry Candy trained LIMATO. The 4-y-o bay gelding has had a fine season, and if the ground is good it is hard to see any rival beating him to the finishing post. Of course, if the weather dampens then it is unlikely Candy will go ahead with the run, consequently making MECCA’S ANGEL a very well priced 10/1 option. Limato is currently 9/4.

14:35 – British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) – The second Group 1 clash of the meet looks a very tough nut to crack, and even with O’Brien’s horses going well at the minute we have opted for Ralph Beckett trained SIMPLE VERSE. The 4-y-o filly won this race last year at just 5/1, and with a win under her belt post-break this season we make her huge value out at 14/1 – Best Priced at SkyBet (Bet £10 Get £30 HERE)

15:10 – Qipco Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) (British Champions Mile) – Now for the big one. For us, RIBCHESTER wins this race well, but if you are un-easy on backing the Jacques Le Marois victor at short odds, then 3-y-o Colt AWTAAD makes plenty of each way appeal. He’s had a fine career, and there is a big chance he’ll feature in the frame on his final outing before retiring at Derrinstown Stud. Ribchester is currently 2/1. – Best Priced at SkyBet (Bet £10 Get £30 HERE)

15:45 – Qipco Champion Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) (British Champions Middle Distance) – This is our easiest pick of the day. French Colt ALMANZOR impressed heavily on his last outing, and with trainer Jean-Claude Rouget skipping The Arc De Triomphe to bring him over to British soil there is no doubt that they’re here for the win. He’s well rested & arrives on the same mark, making him a tempting price of 13/8.Best Priced at BetBright (Bet £5 Get £20 HERE)

16:25 – Balmoral Handicap (Class 2) – The Balmoral Handicap isn’t the easiest to bet on, but we again look to a Roger Charlton trained horse for each way value. YUFTEN, who ran well on debut for his new trainer in this class last time out is certain to improve. The 5-y-o was held up, but still managed 4th, staying on impressively to make the 1m distance look suited to his run. Currently 9/1. – Best Priced with SkyBet (Bet £10 Get £30 HERE)
