Cambridgeshire Meeting Quiz and Preview
Cambridgeshire Meeting Quiz and Preview
This week sees the return of the highly anticipated Cambridgeshire meeting at Newmarket and here we will be previewing the major races on the final day of the meeting including the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes, The Cheveley Park Stakes, The Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes and the all important Cambridgeshire Handicap.
To start of with we will take a look at the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes.
Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes
This looks to be an extremely well contested race run over the Rowley Mile and we’ve gone for the in form horse in the race in MONTATAIRE. Since breaking his maiden towards the end of June, Mark Johnston’s two year-old colt has gone on to win four of his last five races which included a thoroughly impressive five length win in listed company last time out at Salisbury in what was his first run over a mile and he will look to build on that as he steps up to make his group debut. He will however be coming up against some very decent and unexposed horses which include the A P O’Brien trained DOUGLAS MACARTHUR who was last turned out two weeks ago at Leopardstown finishing a hard fought 3rd to Landfall. There are no prices out for this race yet but once there are, we will get the preview updated!
Cheveley Park Stakes
The highly anticipated Cheveley Park Stakes makes a return in what looks to be a next to incredible field. At the moment, it looks to be a case of LADY AURELIA vs QUEEN KINDLY vs ROLY POLY but we will start with the unbeaten American filly Lady Aurelia. Since bursting on to the British racing scene with her emphatic seven length victory in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, she has gone on to claim a Group 1 win over at Deauville back in late August but in far less stylish fashion than her Royal Ascot performance. However, she looked far less suited to the front running tactics on that day than she did when she kicked on to win so impressively at Royal Ascot in June so if Frankie rides a similar race to what he did on her at Ascot, we fully expect her to claim the win. She goes up against the daughter of Frankel QUEEN KINDLY who caused a major shock in the Lowther Stakes in August beating odds on favourite and half sister FAIR EVA to claim the prestigious Group 2 title. Runner up to Queen Kindly that day, ROLY POLY, also challenges the two fillies in what will be a very enlightening race. Get Lady Aurelia at an enormous 6/1 when you join Betfair HERE.
Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes
In what could be a very touch and go race, this years Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes sees red hot Godolphin favourite BLUE POINT looking to gain revenge on the Richard Hannon trained MEHMAS who will be retiring to stud early as a two-year-old after Saturdays race. After losing his unbeaten run to Mehmas in the Richmond Stakes towards the end of July, BLUE POINT has gone on to excel in Group 2 company winning last time out in a decent field at York. MEHMAS will be looking to put the cherry on top of the cake after a tremendous year for the Al Shaqab Racing colt which included two Group 2 wins and runner up to Churchill last time out at The Curragh. What is probably more incredible is that MEHMAS has never finished outside the top two in all of his seven races and that is why he is our tip for this race. Dettori will be giving it his all on a horse he is extremely fond of and with retirement beckoning, the horse will be doing his all too. Get Mehmas at a huge 5/1 at BetVictor HERE.
The biggest flat handicap in British racing with over 30 runners, the Cambridgeshire Handicap is always a fiercely contested one and to make sure we’re giving you the best chance of winning some $$$, we will be providing you guys with three tips for the race. We’ll start off with our first tip GM HOPKINS. A fairly consistent horse out of the John Gosden stable who has won and placed in listed company over the last 12 months and now drops back into handicaps for this iconic race. He ran a beauty over 10f last time out finishing a hard fought 3.75 behind Godolphin’s Scottish at Haydock and he goes into this race full of confidence. Get him best priced 25/1 at Coral HERE. Now on to our next tip, EXAMINER. After a disappointing return to racing at the start of April, the five-year-old gelding finally started to discover some form finishing 2nd behind Knight Owl over course and distance. He then went on to pick up his first win for Stuart Williams at Epsom over the long mile and he looks a rejuvenated type heading into the big Cambridgeshire Handicap. You can get him best priced 16/1 at Ladbrokes HERE. On to our third and final tip for the race, BANKSEA. A very very consistent horse who has failed to run to full potential in his previous two outings after been favourite for both. However, he now steps up in trip and with the handicapper leaving him alone, we believe he could be a real threat. Get him at a huge 14/1 at Ladbrokes HERE
