The Group 1 race is ran over just under 1 mile 2 furlongs for three year olds and over. The purse of the race has differed over the years but last years was £500,000 with the winner taking home over £280,000.

This historic race is named after the horse Eclipse who was an unbeaten 18th century thoroughbred, who won 18 races during its career.

In the inauguration of this race it became Britains richest ever race with winnings of around £10,000 in 1886. Since then Coral took over the Sponsorship of this race in 1976 and the prize purse has been ever growing..

This race for trainers is up there with having a win in one of Britian’s greatest ever races and that shows how hard it is to produce them.
