134 Horses In The Fold To Take On Superstar Winx Down Under

Now just 10 weeks away from Australian superstar Winx’s record fourth Cox Plate run, 134 entries were released yesterday with many familiar faces from this side of the pond potentially going down under to take on the mare.

Included in the frame to be in the race on October 27th for the $5 million race is the highest rated horse in Europe in Poet’s Word. This horse has gained this title from his last two emphatic wins in the Prince of Wales Stakes at the Royal Meeting and his latest victory again at Ascot in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

This year in Australia they are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Spring Racing Carnival International Competition. This has been boosted with the 134 entries for this special race and no less than 26 overseas horses have been entered for one of the big events of the Carnival, making that 11 more than last year.

Other big names in the racing world that could feature against Winx in late October is multiple Group 1 winner Saxon Warrior who is followed with the Aidan O’Brien team potentially sending over another five of his raiders that have won some remarkable races in Lancaster Bomber, Happily, Rhodedendron, Hydrangea and Deauville.

Godolphin aren’t going to be staying quite either in Australia with the entry of there high flyer Benbatl being nominated into the feature Contest at Moone Valley Racing Club. They could also take over a few more of there horses with the high class Emotionless who won last time out at Newmarket, Folkswood and Blair House who hasn’t been seen for some time.

Irish Derby Winner Latrobe could also make the frame for young trainer Joseph O’Brien and owner Lloyd Williams who are the same connections that last year went to Australia and claimed the prestigious Melbourne Cup.

This will be Winx’s potentially sternest ever test in racing trying to keep her unbeaten record of 25 consecutive wins and add her 19th Group 1 title to her collection. She has been out on the track in Australia over the past couple of days in trial races to get her back where she needs to be.
